1. Determine Your Eligibility

Before you apply, ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for the visa. This includes:

  • Having a valid passport
  • Being in good health
  • Not having a criminal or immigration-related conviction
  • Proving ties to your home country (like job, home, financial assets, or family)
  • You must plan to stay in Canada for a temporary period
  • Show that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Canada.

2. Documents Required

You will need the following documents as the part of the application package:

  • A valid Indian passport
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • Proof of employment or study, as applicable
  • Proof of financial resources to support the stay in Canada
  • Invitation letter from a Canadian host, if applicable
  • Completed application form for Temporary Resident Visa (IMM 5257)
  • Family information form (IMM 5707 or IMM 5645)
  • Detailed travel itinerary or plans
  • Proof of payment of visa fees

3. Online Application Process

The application for Canada’s visitor visa can be submitted online through the official website of the Canadian government. You will need to create an account on the website and fill in the necessary information.

4. Biometric Information

After submitting your application, you’ll be asked to provide biometric information (photograph and fingerprints) at a Visa Application Centre (VAC). This is a mandatory part of the application process for Indian citizens.

5. Processing Time

The processing time for visitor visa applications can vary depending on the location of the office where the application is processed. As per the Canadian government’s website, it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

6. Conducting Interview

In some cases, the applicant may be required to attend an interview at the Canadian consulate or embassy in India.

7. Visa Decision

Upon completion of the application process and any interviews, you will be notified about the final decision regarding your visa application. If approved, the visa will be stamped on your passport or you’ll receive an electronic visa to travel to Canada.

Please note that having a visa does not guarantee entry into Canada. At the port of entry, officers will check to make sure that person is eligible to enter Canada.
